Garrisons Lake Fishing Bridge to close for repairs November 9 and 10, 2017

DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today that the fishing footbridge at Garrisons Lake near Smyrna will close November 9 and 10,2017 rain dates November 16 and 17, 2017 for repairs to the guardrail. The guardrail was damaged when a tree limb fell on it during a recent storm.

State record 36-pound, 3.2-ounce catfish caught from the Nanticoke River near Seaford

DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife has confirmed a new state record in the Delaware Sport Fishing Tournament: a 36-pound, 3.2-ounce blue catfish, caught June 20, 2017 by Jordan Walker of Harrington. The fish was 38½ inches long and had a girth of 27½ inches.

Living oyster bed created at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

Photo: Stuart Dawson, Greg Kemp, and Billy Adams recently donated oysters and labor to help the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum build a foundation for a living oyster bed next to its Waterman’s Wharf exhibition.

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., now has its own living oyster bed, thanks to a generous donation from a local oyster farm dedicated to building a sustainable oyster population in the Miles River.
